Isra and Mairaj are one of the most renowned miracles of Prophet Mohammed SAW. Prophet Mohammed SAW was ascended to heaven in one night where he met Allah SWT and other prophets. We will discuss this major happenings of this night in next lines.
Event:
The event of Isra and Mairaj took place on the 27 night Rajab (7th Islamic month) when Allah Almighty sent Jibrael AS to Prophet Mohammed SAWW to bring him to Allah. First Prophet Mohammed SAWW was taken to Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and then he was ascended to heavens.
In the Quran, Allah Almighty says:
[su_quote]Glory to (Allah) Who did take His Servant for Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose precincts We did bless – in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the one Who heareth and seeth (all things).[/su_quote] (17:1)
Further to that, learning from the Holy Quran, at another place Allah SWT gives describes this event of Isra and Mairaj in the following way:
[su_quote]While he was in the highest part of the horizon: Then he approached and came closer, And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. The (Prophet’s) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? For indeed he saw him at a second descent. Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: near it is the Garden of Abode. Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) (His) sight never swerved nor did it go wrong! For truly did he see of the Signs of His Lord the Greatest.[/su_quote] (53:7-18)
This ayah describes the climax moments of the night of Mirah where Prophet Mohammed SWT met Allah SWT in person. There are many events that took place in this night and we will discuss the only three major happenings on the night of Miraj.
Meeting With Prophets:
Our beloved Prophet Mohammed SAWW met with various prophets while ascending to heavens. The brief description of these meetings is given below:
- Meeting with Prophet Adam AS: At first heaven, Prophet Mohammed SAWW met Prophet Adam AS.
- Meeting with Prophet Isa AS and Yahiya: At second heaven Prophet Mohammed SAWW met Prophet Isa AS and Prophet Yahiya A.S.
- Meeting with Prophet Yusuf A.S: At the Third Heaven, Prophet Mohammed SAWW met Hazrat Yusuf A.S.
- Meeting with Prophet Idris A.S: Our beloved Prophet Mohammed SAWW met Prophet Idris (AS) on fourth heaven.
- Meeting with Prophet Harun A.S: At the fifth heaven Prophet Mohammed SAWW met Prophet Harun A.S
- Meeting with Prophet Musa A.S: At the sixth heaven Prophet Mohammed SAWW met Prophet Musa A.S
- Meeting with Prophet Ibrahim A.S: At the seventh heaven, Prophet Mohammed SAWW met Prophet Ibrahim A.S.
Five Time Salah:
The prayers were made compulsory for Muslims
When Prophet Mohammed SWW met Allah SWT, Allah SWT spoke about to Prophet Mohammed SAWW about the Salah. 5 times salah in a day was made compulsory for Muslims although salah was fifty times for the first time, on the special request of Prophet Mohammed SAWW, Allah reduced it to 5 times a day. Though it was reduced from 50 times to 5 times still the reward of 5 prayers we offer equals 50 prayers.

Showing Of Paradise And Hell:
In addition to commandments about the salah, and meeting Allah SWT, the paradise and hell were shown to Prophet Mohammed SAWW. He witnessed different kinds of punishments given to people who committed bad deeds in this world. He saw adulterers eating smelly fatty meat and usury takers having large bellies and they were not able to more. In paradise our beloved Prophet Mohammed SAWW saw the blessings and rewards being enjoyed by the men and women of paradise.
Conclusion:
The night of Miraj and Isra is one of the most revered and respected night in Islam. This night the great miracle of Miraj happened and one of greatest respect was given to our Prophet by meeting Allah SWT.
