Surah Ikhlas is in the Last parah of Quran and it means “The Purity” .It refutes all misguided beliefs about the genealogy and description of Allah. This Surah provides information about His similitude, form, origin and offspring. This surah explains that nothing is similar to Him in His Attributes, His Dominion or His Divinity. So, He is the only one LORD of what is present in this universe and He deserves all worships by his creatures.
Now we will translate and interpret each verse one by one.
- Say: “He is Allah, One (the Unique)”
This verse is about Allah SWT uniqueness, oneness affirms on that he is inimitable. There is no one other like him in any aspect and his unity is indivisible. - “Allah, the Self-Sufficient.”
This add more to the meaning of first verse. In this verse Allah SWT says that he is self sufficient and He don’t require help or assistance of any one. He can do whatever he wants and no one can stop him from what he wants to do. He is not dependent and he is in perfect state and he is not benefited from anyone. Our worships to him is not his need, we need to worship him to reach our goal that is Jannah.
- [su_quote]He does not give birth, nor was He born.[/su_quote]
This very is about another aspect of his purity that no one has given birth to him and he does not give birth to anyone which shows the eternal existence of Allah. Many religions misinterpret him and represent him in human terms but attributing him to human characteristics.
This verse also answer to question that where does god come from? Allah says that he was NOT born to anyone so He was always present even before the start of time and will always be present. This is also a logical argument to counter the unending loop of questions who is the creator of God and who created the creator of God and so on. Allah SWT also negates that He has given birth to anyone and declares himself pure of any offspring. Allah SWT also negated the idea of the trinity in Christianity in this verse and also called Jesus “Son of Mary” not as the son of God.
- [su_quote]And there is nothing equal to Him.[/su_quote]
This chapter closes with the verse which states that Allah is unmatchable to anything in any regard. This verse also describes the uniqueness of Allah SWT that nothing is equal to him. It is a rule of thumb that the Creator is always superior to His creation.
As is the creator of all things in the universe so nothing can surpass his excellence which has no limits. Muslims believe that nothing is equal to Allah SWT so they don’t depict Allah SWT in pictures because it is against the honor to illustrate him in a picture when nothing is comparable to Him. For the same reasons, Muslims are not allowed to make statues or sculptures of Allah SWT.
Thus this Surah (chapter) of the Quran is exclusively about uniqueness and oneness of AWT and proves Allah SWT pure of every kind of impurity in just a few lines. It emphasizes that nothing is similar to Him in His Attributes, His Dominion, or His Divinity. He holds all rights to be worshiped by his creatures.
Abu’l-Dardaa’ narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: [su_quote]Is any one of you unable to recite one-third of the Quran in one night?[/su_quote] They said, [su_quote]How could anyone read one-third of the Quran?[/su_quote] He said, [su_quote]Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad is equivalent to one-third of the Quran.[/su_quote]
