7 Tips for Perfect Quran Recitation

It is always are a matter of concern for non-Arab Muslims to read the Quran in the right and correct way. People find it very difficult when they start learning the proper recitation of the Quran.

Learn Quran Academy is a leading Online Quran Teaching Organization that teaches different Quran courses online to students from all over the world. With our vast online Quran teaching experience, we are going to share some of the tips which we found very useful for rapidly facilitating proper Quranic recitation.

1. Renew your intention every time.

For an adult, it is very hard to learn the phonemes of any new language. Therefore you need a lot of stamina and will power to learn a new language. You might often get discouraged when your continuous efforts are not enough to learn the right sound.

This is the time when you need to stay competitive and focused on your goal. Just keep in the mind why you’re doing this and what reward you’re going to get by doing this. The Prophet (saws) encouraged us thus in the following hadith:

[su_quote]The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur’an will be with the honorable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur’an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have a double reward.[/su_quote]
[Bukhari and Muslim]

2. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes

Many of us are afraid that if they don’t know how to read the Quran properly they should not try to read because making mistakes will be Haram. This belief is not just wrong, it is in fact harmful as if prevents us from reciting the Quran. Allah said,

[su_quote]So fear Allah as much as you are able and listen and obey and spend [in the way of Allah ]; it is better for your selves. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul – it is those who will be successful.[/su_quote] [64:16]

So don’t be afraid to recite Quran even if you’re not good at it, because if you are not going to try it means that you are not going to learn the recitation of the Quran properly.

3.Over-stress in order to achieve the right stress

Many, not native Muslims find it hard to produce the sound of ح ق ع. So, you have to put extra stress in these words at the beginning, and once I could produce the stressed sounds with ease, I stopped stressing them. When you are able to produce the correct sound for these letters you should stop stressing for these letters. Try and see if it works.

4.Practice

Practice makes perfect and thousand-hour practice is required for completely learning something. So in order to be a perfect reciter of the Quran you need to keep practicing. You don’t need a fixed time and place to practice makhraj and sifaat. Just try pronouncing the words you find hard to pronounce anywhere you find time Keeps doing sound practice just like a baby does, who doesn’t care of what others think, not getting embarrassed, just enjoying what he/she is doing and learning a language at the same time.

5. Listen and imitate

It is very important to listen in order to speak. The more you listen the more you get the pronunciation of words in your memory. It is very helpful to listen to Quranic recitation especially from the Expert Qaris. You can repeat after the Qari over and over again  You’ll find that soon you’re getting the hang of it. Below is the video of Qari from Learn Quran Academy you can watch.

6. Take each rule one at a time

There are many rules of recitation of the Quran but you should take only one rule at a time to practice.  Get the hang of it first and master it before starting on the next rule. If you try to master too many rules at once, there is a chance that you’ll get overwhelmed and might even feel like giving up. So make it slow and steady.

7. Don’t be ashamed to use them in conversation

There are many letters which can be practiced in our daily life just by using the sunnah way of greetings and other simple Islamic terms. For example, you can practice the sound of “Ayn ع ” in saying Assalam o Alaikum. So, don’t hesitate to use it the next time you say assalamu ‘Alaikum. You can practice the word, Ha, saying alHamdulillah correctly and more often. It will get you more blessings from Allah. The correct pronunciation is a gift from Allah, and we must use it in order to please Him.
